Weekly Diary Entry – 23rd – 29th January
If you have been around here for a few years, you would know I have been blogging since 2010/2011. Although my old blog posts are no longer published. I wanted to continue a regular Diary feature which I would post every week. Back then, I would post about beauty and lifestyle, sharing outfits and products I loved, etc. I loved that these posts were so raw and unfiltered, as I didn’t have to stage professional photos or spend hours compiling in-depth research.
So I have decided to make these posts a recurring feature here. The topic will be sharing my behind-the-scenes life as an artist and a little insight into what I have done from that week.
Last week flew by without me evening knowing, as it was rather busy.
Monday
I started a pet portrait for my parents of their lovely dog Molly.
On Monday, I spent a total of six hours on the painting. It is a combination of watercolour and coloured pencils.
Overall I am happy with the progress that I have made so far, especially as this is my first time painting in this manner with an animal as the subject matter, but so far, I am obsessed and can’t wait to work on it some more this week.
Tuesday
On Tuesday, I took a trip to the national gallery in London. This is my favourite gallery in the UK. They have some incredible pieces in their collection, and it is my go-to when I want to find inspiration.
This is a selection of some of the works that I saw.
Wednesday
Using the same watercolour and colouring pencils combination that I used on the pet portrait on a little study of an orange. I love how it turned out. I used the KHADI handmade paper, which has a very textured surface. This seemed to work well when creating texture with the colouring pencils.
Thursday
Most of Thursday, I spent doing an endless amount of admin tasks. However, I was able to break it up a bit by spending some time flicking through a new book. I picked up The Classical Painting Atelier book by Juliette Aristides, and so far seemed very informative.
Friday
Friday was spent finishing up my admin tasks left over from Thursday, and then I spent the rest of the day on the pet portrait. I still have a long way to go until it’s finished, but I am so happy with how the eyes have turned out.
Saturday and Sunday
At the weekend, I try to shut off from work. So it meant spending time with my husband and family. We headed out for a lovely walk around the country fields. The day was crisp but sunny—the perfect day, in my opinion.
Sunday, we went for an excellent breakfast with my parents and spent the rest of the day sorting through some clothes to give to charities.
Let me know what you have done this week in the comments below. I would love to hear them. If you want to follow me closely, please check my Instagram.
