It’s not uncommon for artists to take a break from their practice to recharge and gain new perspectives. Sometimes, stepping away from your artwork can help you return to it with fresh eyes and renewed inspiration.
Over the next year or so, I plan to go back to the basics. Completely closing my shop and no longer focusing on a certain art style. The latter, in particular, is something that I feel has been holding me back for so long.
For artists, you always get told to stick to a subject matter and develop your style! However, I am drawn to so many subject matters that I often feel trapped in a box when I attempt to stick to one thing.
Personal matters also play a role in how much time and energy I have to put into my business in 2024. Therefore, all current commissions will be completed this year. However, after that, the shop and commissions will be closed until October 2024.
Why Artists need to take a break
There are many reasons why an artist may need to take a break. Perhaps you are feeling burnt out or uninspired, or maybe you have other obligations taking up your time and energy. Whatever the reason, it’s important to remember that taking a break doesn’t mean that you have failed as an artist.
Taking time away from your art practice can be a valuable opportunity for growth and self-reflection. You may want to use this time to explore new mediums or techniques. This time is also perfect for developing other skills to benefit your art in the long run.
Ultimately, the decision to take time away from your art practice is personal. It’s important to listen to your needs and instincts. Whether you take a few days, weeks, or months away from your art, know that it’s okay to take a break and that you will return to your practice stronger and more inspired than ever.
Going Forward
There will be many more sketchbook drawings from now on that I am keen to document throughout. I look forward to seeing what this next chapter will bring, but most importantly, how my skills progress.
